The HIMA Forum is the first specialized forum in the region dedicated to protected areas, aligning with the Kingdom's efforts to expand protected areas to reach a percentage of 30% for both terrestrial and marine areas by 2030. It also aligns with the announcement of the 15th CBD COP conference held in Montreal in December 2022, where the 30*30 agreement was announced, stipulating that the percentage of protected lands in member states will reach 30% by 2030. The Kingdom had committed to this goal one year earlier.
The forum brings together the global and regional key experts to support the preservation of natural habitats, sustainable development goals, the concept of protected areas, and the environmental and social criteria through which sites are selected.
